This style hat was made famous in the West by news media images of the Mujahideen and other Afghan opposition groups fighting the Russians during the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan. Tajik commander Ahmed Shah Masoud always wore a pakol when defending the Panjshir Valley of Afghanistan. Originating in Northern Afghanistan this hat is called a pakol, pakul, Nuristani hat, or Chitrali hat. The chitrali pakol is a little bigger than a normal pakol. Made of 100% wool with twill lining.

Ivory Chitrali Pakol with Peacock Feather

In the Chitral and Gilgit-Baltistan areas, the off-white or ivory pakol is the most popular color and is often worn with a peacock feather tucked into the fold on the front or the side of the hat. The blue-green hue of the peacock feather is striking next to the ivory colored wool.

loadout

Equipment, ammunition, tools, and clothing used by a person (typically on active duty in the armed forces).

Loadouts can change depending on time of day, season, terrain, and personal preference.

"That marine has a sweet looking loadout."
